Roux-en-Y gastric bypass has a long history of safety and effectiveness with more than 30 years of research data. It works by restricting the amount of food a patient is able to eat and decreases the amount of food that is absorbed by bypassing a portion of the intestine. It also affects appetite-stimulating hormones with a metabolic component that helps cure diabetes (see video below).
Lap-Banding
Lap-Banding is less invasive and allows for quicker recovery time than previously used techniques. The Lap-Band procedure enables patients to lose weight in a more natural manner over a longer period of time, thereby helping the body to become accustomed to the new routines. This has the advantage of being adjustable or reversible.
