General Visiting Hours
General visiting hours are 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. daily. Children under 12 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. All visitors must wear shoes and be free of infection including but not limited to: cold sores (herpes simplex), shingles (herpes zoster), colds, flu, vomiting, diarrhea, fever and exposure to a communicable disease within the past three weeks. The staff caring for a patient may set specific visiting hours based on the needs and or preferences of that patient.
Department specific visiting hours are observed in:
- Mercy Birth Center
- Neonatal Intensive Care Nursery (NICU)
- Mental Health Unit
- Pediatric Unit
- Critical Care
- Medical Telemetry (6W)
- Hospice Center
- Skilled Nursing Unit
- Acute Rehabilitation
Mercy Medical Center – North Iowa will implement a standard “Quiet Time” hospital-wide on February 1. During “Quiet Time” – 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and again from 10:00 p.m. – 6:00 a.m. every day, visitors and hospital staff will be asked to:
Quiet time will further promote healing and provide a time for more uninterrupted sleep and rest. High sound levels affect patients’ sleep, raises their anxiety levels and lowers their ability to manage symptoms.
Patients will continue to receive visits from healthcare staff during quiet time. Mercy – North Iowa’s Critical Care Unit will begin quiet time one hour earlier in the afternoon then the rest of the units. Critical Care quiet time will be 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. and again from 10:00 p.m. – 6:00 a.m
