Patient Education

Channel 7 is the hospital’s closed-circuit television station which features a number of health-related programs. If you do not have a Channel 7 program schedule in your room, please ask your nurse for one.

Communication Assistance

Sign language and foreign language interpreters are available to assist you in understanding health care information. Phone speakers and amplifiers are available upon request. Speech pathology can provide a variety of assistive devices for communication. In addition, large number phones and other devices may be accessed to assist with sign communication. We are here to help, please do not hesitate to inform the nursing staff if  you need assistance.

Electronic Banking

Banking services are available through an automatic teller machine (ATM) located in the center north/south corridor on the first floor of MercyOne and on the upper level near MercyOne Family Pharmacy at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center West.

Newspapers

If you would like to receive the Mason City Globe-Gazette, Des Moines Register, Minneapolis Tribune or USA Today, please inform your nurse. Newspaper vending machines are available. Ask your nurse about the locations of the vending machines.

Notary Public

The services of a notary public may be requested by contacting your nurse.

Mail and Flowers

Mail is delivered to patients each afternoon. Mail should be sent to you using your full name (first and last, not nickname) on the envelope at the medical center’s general address: 1000 4th Street SW, Mason City. Any mail that arrives after your discharge will be forwarded to your home address.

Flowers are delivered to patients’ rooms at a variety of times each day.

Parking

Designated parking areas are available on both campuses for your parking needs. Handicap parking spaces are available in most lots. If questions or problems arise, please contact the medical center security on either campus. Maps are available on this website by selecting the North Iowa location, For Patients section and then Find Us. A map also may be requested at Patient Registration.

Gift Shop

The gift shop is operated by the MercyOne Ambassadors and is staffed by volunteers. Located on the first floor of MercyOne, the Gift Shop carries such items as gifts, books magazines, cards, plants, flowers and toiletry items. The hours are:

  • Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Sunday 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.

The Gift Shop is closed on Sundays in the summer.
