Special Services

Mercy Family Health Line

A free health information and physician referral service is available 24 hours a day. Callers have the opportunity to talk with registered nurses who are trained to provide answers to a wide range of health care questions on a confidential basis. In addition to providing referral information for physician or medical center services, Mercy Family Health Line also can guide you to community programs and services. You may call Mercy Family Health Line at 641-428-7777 or 800-468-0050. Additional health information is available on our website at www.mercynorthiowa.com.

Patient Education

Channel 7 is the hospital’s closed-circuit television station which features a number of health-related programs. If you do not have a Channel 7 program schedule in your room, please ask your nurse for one.

Communication Assistance

Sign language and foreign language interpreters are available to assist you in understanding health care information. Phone speakers and amplifiers are available upon request. Speech pathology can provide a variety of assistive devices for communication. In addition, large number phones and other devices may be accessed to assist with sign communication. Please do not hesitate to inform the nursing staff if assistance is needed.

Electronic Banking

Banking services are available through an automatic teller machine (ATM) located in the center north/south corridor on the first floor of East Campus and on the upper level near Mercy Family Pharmacy on West Campus.

Newspapers

If you would like to receive the Mason City Globe-Gazette, Des Moines Register, Minneapolis Tribune, or USA Today, please inform your nurse. Newspaper vending machines are available. Ask your nurse about the locations of the vending machines.

Notary Public

The services of a notary public may be requested by contacting your nurse.

Mail and Flowers

Mail is delivered to patients each afternoon. Mail should be sent to you using your full name (first and last, not nickname) on the envelope at the medical center’s general address: 1000 4th Street SW, Mason City. Any mail that arrives after your discharge will be forwarded to your home address.

Flowers are delivered to patients’ rooms at a variety of times each day.

Patient E-Mail Messages

Family and friends may send e-mail get well messages to patients at Mercy – North Iowa by going to our website at www.mercynorthiowa.com and using the form provided. A volunteer will print the e-mail and hand-deliver it to the patient. If an e-mail arrives for a patient who has been discharged, the e-mail will be discarded. E-mails will be delivered between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Any e-mails arriving after 3:00 p.m. will be delivered the following morning. Weekend delivery is not available.

Parking

Designated parking areas are available on both campuses for patient and visitor parking. Handicap parking spaces are available in most lots. If questions or problems arise, please contact the medical center security on either campus. Maps are available by visiting our website at www.mercynorthiowa.com, clicking on Patient/Visitor Information and scrolling to the bottom of that page. A map also may be requested at Patient Registration.

Valet Parking

Mercy Medical Center – North Iowa is pleased to offer free parking to all patients and guests at all Mercy locations. For your convenience, Valet Parking Service is available on the East Campus at the Main Entrance. This entrance is located on the south side of the hospital. Hours: 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday (except holidays.)

Valet parking is a free service to our patients and guests and tips cannot be accepted. If you have any questions, please call 641-428-7000. In the event that you are unable to pick up your vehicle by 5:00 p.m., it will be moved close to the main entrance. Please use the telephone at the main information desk in the main south lobby and dial “0” for assistance in retrieving your keys.

Gift Shop

The Gift Shop is operated by the Mercy Ambassadors and is staffed by volunteers. Located on the East Campus (first floor), the Gift Shop carries such items as gifts, books magazines, cards, plants, flowers, and toiletry items. The hours are:

  • Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
  • Saturday and Sunday, 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.

The Gift Shop is closed on Sundays in the summer.
