Mercy Ambassadors - Service Areas
Blood Pressure Screening – Volunteers
provide this weekly screening service.
Tuesdays, 9 a.m. - Noon, West Campus
Cafeteria Host - Volunteers
help guests find their way through the cafeteria scatter system, explaining
the layout and location of various cafeteria food offerings, and carrying
trays for individuals needing assistance and seating guests at a table.
Monday – Friday, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Cancer Center – duties include
providing support in clerical and receptionist area, visiting with patients
and families, transporting patients, providing patient and family with support
service information.
Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - noon, noon - 3:30 p.m.
Clerical/Receptionist
Support - help hospital departments with various clerical support
such as answering phones, filing, organizing and/or collating materials,
assembly of classroom packets, etc.
Schedule – as needed
Critical Care Waiting Room -
assist families and friends of CCU patients by answering phone, making coffee,
taking and relaying messages, calling for professional support services,
and keep waiting area picked up.
Sunday - Saturday, 8 a.m. – 12 noon, noon – 4 p.m., 4 - 8 p.m.
Escort - help relieve
stress and confusion for our guests by escorting them to all areas of hospital
and both clinics. Wheelchair pushing and walking are a part of this important
customer service area.
Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 12 noon and 12 noon – 4 p.m. East Campus Monday
- Friday, 9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. and 12:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. West Campus
Eucharistic Ministry – This
program is offered through Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa Spiritual Care
Office. Volunteers serve communion seven days a week to patients of the Catholic
faith.
Sunday through Saturday Flexible hours
Gift Shop – requires
basic retail skills of shop clerk, East Campus
Weekdays: 9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., 12:30 – 4 p.m., 6 – 8 p.m.
Weekends: 1-4 p.m.
Glaucoma Screening - use tonometer
to measure eye pressure. New tonometer is easy to learn and use and provides
accurate reading.

HIMS
Health Information and Management Service – clerical support
in the organization of outpatient and emergency center admission forms.
Monday – Fridays, Hours are flexible
Information Desk - provide
patients and visitors with information such as patient room numbers,
directions to hospital departments/units, address patient mail, answer phone,
transfer
calls.
East Campus
Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. - noon, noon – 4 p.m.
Weekends available
West Campus
Monday – Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. and 12:30 - 3:30
p.m.
Internal
Medicine Clinic – greet patients, direct patients to appropriate
areas, help direct “traffic flow” as patients enter and leave the
clinic.
Monday – Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
MAP-Medication Assistance Program– work
one on one with patients to assist them in obtaining medications at reduced
prices or at no cost directly from pharmaceutical companies. Computer skills
necessary.
Hours flexible.
Marketing & Community Relations – a volunteer is needed to assist the marketing specialist in the maintenance of the Service Excellence Winning Ways program. Data. Good working knowledge of Excel required. Time commitment is 4 to 8 hours per week. Scheduling of day and time is flexible. A 6-month commitment is required. This is an excellent opportunity for a college student majoring in marketing, business, administrative assistant, software application specialist, information systems.
Mended Hearts-provide support and education to heart patients and their families. Visitors are trained and scheduled according to need.
Patient
Registration-escort patients to surgery, outpatient procedures
or to their hospital room.
Monday – Friday, 6-8 a.m., 8 a.m. - noon and noon-4 p.m.
Regional Health Education Center – receptionist
and telephone responsibilities.
Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 12 noon, 12 noon – 3:30 p.m.
SHIIP Senior Health Insurance Information
Program - provide one-on-one counseling related to senior health
concerns such as Medicare, Medicaid, and long-term care insurance. Thirty-two
hour initial training session, attendance at three out of four quarterly
update meetings required. SHIIP is sponsored by the State of Iowa Insurance
Commission Office.
Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 12 noon, 12 noon - 3:30 p.m.
Special Projects – these projects may need one-time or on-going support. Special projects currently supported by Mercy Volunteer Services include American Cancer Center Daffodil Day Sales, Mandatory Education Safety Fair, Employee Blood Drives, special sewing projects for Rehab Services patients, staffing of ticket sales/donation tables for events such as Arthritis Jingle Bell Run, Walk/Run/Jog for the Cure, Juvenile Diabetes Walkathon, sewing infant Christmas stockings, etc.

Spiritual Care Visitor – This
program is offered through Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa Spiritual Care
Office. Make initial visits to certain patients on behalf of Spiritual Care
Department checking on religious preference, offer to contact pastor and
offer prayer support when requested.
Weekdays as needed
Surgery Waiting Room (SWR) – volunteers act as liaison between surgery staff and patients and family. There are three positions in Surgery Waiting Room. They are:

SWR1-answers phones, checks in patients and families, insures family
and doctor meet for conferencing after surgery
Monday – Friday, 6 a.m. –10 a.m., 10 a.m.-1 p.m., 1 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.
- SWR2-acts as liaison between endoscopy department and SWR patients and
guests, answers phone, insures family meets with doctor for conference,
assists with patients and families needs, replenishes coffee supplies,
sells items from snack cart, escorts patients and families to various second
floor locations
Monday – Friday, 6 a.m. -8 a.m., 8 a.m.-12 noon, 12 noon-3:30 p.m.
- SWR3-escorts patients and families to various second floor locations,
helps with sale of items from snack cart, helps with replenishing of coffee
supplies
Monday – Friday, 6 a.m. – 8 a.m., 8 a.m. – 12 noon
Wheelchair Service – round
up wheelchairs at end of day and return chairs to their designated department
or unit.
Monday – Friday, 3:30 p.m. – 5 p.m.
