Outpatient Pediatric Rehabilitation
In outpatient pediatric rehabilitation, therapists work one-on-one with children in child-directed therapy to guide improvements and development in the client's strength; social/interaction skills; fine motor skills; speech and language skills; gross motor skills; speech/language skills, and more.
After receiving a physician referral, the staff will perform a standardized and/or observational assessment of the patient, depending on their condition. A treatment plan will be developed by the therapists, taking into consideration the goals of the child and the parents.
Occupational therapy treatment goals may include:
- Purposeful play (using toys/games for what they are intended) and social interaction skills
- Whole body coordination and sensory integration
- Upper body strengthening
- Fine motor coordination for functional skills like buttoning, tying shoes, zipping
- Drawing and hand-writing legibility and formation of letters
- Self-care skills like getting dressed and self-feeding
Physical therapy treatment and goals may include:
- Balance and movement/transitions
- Lower body strengthening
- Walking
- Gross motor coordination
- Aquatic therapy
Speech and language therapy treatment goals may include:
- Articulation and language disorders
- Feeding/swallowing therapy
- Cleft palate problems
- Voice disorders
- Cognitive disorders
- Small Talk program
Appropriate Candidates for Pediatric Rehabilitation
The Pediatric Rehabilitation program serves infants to adolescents with conditions such as:
- Autism
- Down's syndrome
- Apraxia
- Fragile X
- ADHD
- Cerebral Palsy
- Developmental delays
