- Managing difficult symptoms:

- Shortness of breath
- Loss of appetite
- Constipation/diarrhea
- Confusion/delirium
- Difficulty sleeping
- Emotional and spiritual consultation:
- Coping with illness
- Support for families and loved ones
- Assistance with decision making:

- Assistance with treatment choices
- Assistance with discharge from the hospital
- End-of-life issues
- Information on advanced directives:
- Living will
- Durable power of attorney for health care

How To Receive Services from the Palliative Medicine Team:
At the request of your physician and with the approval of patients and their
families, an initial consultation will be conducted to determine the needs
and goals of each individual. A family conference is often scheduled at that
time to openly share information, discuss concerns and set goals for patient
care.
