How We Help:
The Palliative Medicine Team offers physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual care through:

  • Managing difficult symptoms:
    - Pain
    - Fatigue
    - Nausea
    - Anxiety
    - Depression
    - Shortness of breath
    - Loss of appetite
    - Constipation/diarrhea
    - Confusion/delirium
    - Difficulty sleeping
     
  • Emotional and spiritual consultation:
    - Coping with illness
    - Support for families and loved ones
     
  • Assistance with decision making:
    - Meeting with patientFacilitating communication among health care providers and patients/families
    - Assistance with treatment choices
    - Assistance with discharge from the hospital
    - End-of-life issues
     
  • Information on advanced directives:
    - Living will
    - Durable power of attorney for health care
     
  • Complementary therapies:
    - Massage therapy
    - Relaxation/guided imagery
    - Pet therapy
    - Music therapy
    - Healing touch

How To Receive Services from the Palliative Medicine Team:
At the request of your physician and with the approval of patients and their families, an initial consultation will be conducted to determine the needs and goals of each individual. A family conference is often scheduled at that time to openly share information, discuss concerns and set goals for patient care.
