Enhanced External Counterpulsation (EECP)
EECP is a non-surgical, mechanical procedure that can reduce symptoms of angina pectoris, presumably by increasing coronary blood flow.
Treatment of EECP involves a series of 35 one-hour sessions over a period of approximately seven weeks. While EECP is performed, you will be lying on a bed wearing a series of pressure cuffs around your calves and lower and upper thighs. A pressure sources then inflates and deflates theses cuffs. Each wave of pressure is electronically synchronized with your heartbeat and increased blood flow is delivered to your heart at the precise moment. The treatments are painless with minor skin chafing and irritation in some cases. Many patients find they are able to read, listen to music or otherwise relax during therapy.
