Healthy Eating on Peritoneal Dialysis

Food Group: Choose: Limit:

Protein Foods
(Choose 8-10 oz.)
Meats, Eggs Egg Substitute, Peanut Butter, Cottage Cheese, Nutritional Supplement daily Salty meats such as:
Bacon, Ham, Sausage

Milk Products Low Fat Milk Products

Limit to 1 cup a day
Milk Substitute Non-dairy Creamers
(Use in cooking and on cereal)

May use up to 2 cups
Grains White Breads, Pasta,
Rice, Low Salt Crackers
Refined Cereals

Salty Snacks,
Bran Cereals,
Whole Grain Breads
Potatoes 1 to 2 servings a day
Vegetables 2 to 4 servings a day Sauerkraut,
Tomato/V8 Juice
Fruits/Juices 2 to 4 servings a day
Include 1 or 2 high potassium:
Bananas, Oranges, Grapefruit,
Melons, Fresh Peach or Pear

 
Fats Margarine, Butter
Salad Dressings/Gravy

Salty Salad Dressings
Fluids 8-10 cups a day

Milk Products , Colas
Desserts/Sweets Cake, Cookies, Pie,
Candy, Etc.
Milk Desserts
Chocolate, Nuts
(Limit sweets if diabetic or gaining too much weight.)

Seasonings/Condiments Catsup, Mustard,
Pappa Dash, Onion Powder
Perc Seasonings
(May use salt lightly in cooking.)
Very Salty Seasonings
Foods over 400 mg.
sodium per serving or over 1200 mg. sodium per meal
