Diabetes Education

Overview

Diabetes EducationSuccessful management of diabetes requires ongoing care, treatment and education. The Mercy Health Network offers diabetes educational programs for individuals and groups through a TEAM approach. The interactive team approach involves the person with diabetes, the medical provider, nurse educators, dietitian educators, pharmacists, physical therapists, and psychologists.

Self-management requires knowledge about nutrition management, exercise therapy, medication management, monitoring of blood sugars, and learning to cope with many of the emotional issues relating to diabetes. Program options in the network include hospital management of an inpatient with diabetes, individual and group educational classes, intensive insulin therapy classes, the Diabetes Clinic, home care, and adult and child support groups.
