Elekta Precise Dual Engergy Linear Accelerators
The Radiation Oncology Department has two Elekta Precise Dual Energy linear accelerators. These highly sophisticated machines deliver precise dosages of radiation to designated areas of a patient's body. The accelerators produce 6MV (mega volts) and 18MV x-rays and a range of electrons from 4MeV (mega electron volts) to 18MeV. Both machines include multi-leaf collimators (MLC), which enable the accelerator to shape the beam thus protecting the healthy tissue surrounding the tumor. Having two linear accelerators allows:
- A broader range of treatment times for our patients.
- Uninterrupted service to patients if one machine is down.
