| Specimen: |
- Submit entire dried urine calculi specimen.
- Alternate specimen is the filter from straining a urine specimen. The filter should be clean and dry when sent.

| Cause for rejection: |
- The stone is unacceptable if taped to the container. Tape and adhesives interfere with the procedure.
- Stone sent in formalin is also a cause for rejection.

| Processing: |
- Send ambient to Mayo for chemical analysis. Refrigerated or frozen also acceptable. Mayo #8596.
- Include source when ordering on the LIS.

Refrigerate 24 hour urine during collection. |
| Specimen: |
Two 24 hour urines plus 5 SST tubes, One of the 24 hour urines needs a preservative.
Collect:
- 4 large SST tubes plus 1 small SST tube.
- Random fresh urine.
- Patient Questionnare.

Draw blood within 48 hours of urine collection. |
| Processing: |
- Keep small SST tube refrigerated. Do not open.
- Check PH of random fresh urine and record on label.
- Freeze 4 tubes of serum with each tube containing 2 mls.
- Freeze aliquot of urine with preservative.
- Freeze aliquot of urine with no preservative.
- Record respective volumes on labels.

Scrapings, hair, nails, and tissue. Submit in a sterile plastic container with a tight fitting lid.

A concurrent fungus culture is strongly recommended as a confirmatory test.

- Write in KOH Prep on RL order form. Indicate source on form.
- Send at room temperature.
- Order a gram stain if a genital specimen is being sent and the provider is looking for yeast.
