Skilled Nursing Care / Acute Rehabilitation Unit
The Acute Care Pharmacy and Mercy Family Pharmacy - Westside provide pharmaceutical care services to the Skilled Nursing Unit and Acute Rehabilitation unit at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa West Campus in Mason City. The Skilled Nursing Unit is a licensed eighteen-bed facility that offers subacute care to patients depending on their individual needs. The Acute Rehabilitation Unit is a twelve-bed facility that offers customized rehabilitation services for patients recovering from a stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, or other impairments.

The pharmacy provides medications through a Pyxis unit on the floor and also coordinates drug therapy with the Robot Rx automatic dispensing system on the East Campus. Individual dosing regimens and intravenous drug therapy are prepared by the Westside Pharmacy team. A consultant pharmacist reviews patient charts to identify optimal medication administration and to minimize side effects, drug interactions and adverse drug reactions. The consultant pharmacist also attends patient care rounds to obtain a holistic view of the care of each patient.
