Anticoagulation Management Service (AMS) Clinic
Anticoagulation Management Service (AMS) Clinic is a specialty
clinic situated on the Mercy Medical Center North Iowa east campus in Mason
City. The clinic offers extensive monitoring of warfarin (Coumadin) an anticoagulation
medication primarily use to prevent clotting in patient with mechanical valves,
deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolisms, and atrial fibrillation.
Patients can have our staff test their INR with point of care testing (finger stick) in Mercy’s Multi Specialty Clinic area after a referral is made from their primary doctor and an appointment is made with the clinic. The AMS professional staff comprised of Pharm Ds and a physicians assistant (PA) will perform INR, assess patient, and adjust warfarin doses as needed for INR goal parameters.
The AMS clinic also monitors many patient in rural Iowa who have INRs drawn at local labs and result are sent to the clinic and our staff contacts them with the result, assesses patients and again adjusts warfarin as needed for goal parameters.
