Patient Care Units

Critical Care Unit (CCU) - 6 East

Located in the east wing of the 6th floor, Critical Care provides continuous monitoring and nursing care. Care is provided by registered nurses with education in ACLS, trauma and critical care who specialize in critical care utilizing technically sophisticated monitoring equipment.

  • Visiting hours are arranged with the nurse caring for the patient for each shift.
  • Visitors are requested to sign in and out with the volunteer in the CCU waiting room.
  • Visitors are asked to check with the nurse caring for the patient they wish to visit. If the patient is sleeping or a procedure is being performed for any patient in the unit, visiting may not be allowed.
  • A maximum of two visitors is allowed in a patient room at one time.
  • Children under 12 may not be left unattended in the waiting areas and do require special permission to visit critically ill patients.
  • A responsible adult should take children who are crying, loud or running in the area to the first floor lobby.

Cardiac/Medical Step-Down Unit - 6 West

Located in the west wing of the 6th floor, the Cardiac/Medical Step-Down unit provides care to adolescents and adults. This unit provides specialized cardiac, medical and surgical care, including management of hi-tech treatment modalities.

Cardiac patients who are transferred from CVRU following heart surgery will have visitors limited to the immediate family during the early postoperative period.

Orthopedics/Neurology Unit - 5 West

Located in the west wing of the 5th floor, Orthopedics/Neurology is a 30-bed patient care unit that provides care to medical and surgical orthopedic/neurology patients - adolescent and adult. This unit has an onsite physical therapy department. Services provided in this unit include: admission care, surgical preparation, post-operative care, cardiac monitoring, medication administration, pain management, nutritional support, activity and exercise management, skin and wound management, neurological management, coping assistance, cognitive therapy, delirium management and family support.

General visiting hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Behavioral Health Center - First Floor

Located on first floor adjacent to the Emergency Department , Behavioral Health provides a full range of care including initial and ongoing assessments, psychosocial support, pharmacological interventions, evaluations, individual and group therapy, and medical detoxification.

  • Monday through Friday visiting hours are 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
  • Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays visiting hours are 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Adolescent Services

The Educare program is available for adolescents and their parents who are experiencing conflict and crises. Services for adolescents are provided on an inpatient basis. A multi-disciplinary approach is utilized for behavioral concerns and relationship issues such as Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder, depression and anxiety disorders, discipline problems, school and social conflicts, divorce and family. Hospital Care

The severity of an individual’s emotional problem will determine the level of care needed. When close observation and medical monitoring are necessary, hospitalization is available in separate units for adolescents and adults. The staff, which includes psychiatrists, nurses, psychologists and therapists, will utilize individualized evaluation and treatment approaches to ensure rapid resolution. Surgical/Oncology Unit - 4 West

Located on the 4th floor in the west wing, this unit provides care for oncology patients. Services provided include: admission care, surgical preparation, post-operative care, cardiac monitoring, medication administration, pain management, management of emergent situations, restorative care and comfort care, family support and education in process, prescribed activity, prescribed medications, procedure/treatment and potential complications/problems.

General visiting hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

General Medical Unit - 4 East

This unit is located on the 4th floor in the east and south wings. This unit provides care to patients with medical diagnoses including inpatients and observation patients. Patient care provided includes: activities of daily living, medication administration, therapeutic regimens, pain management, preparations for diagnostic testing, management of emergency situations, restorative care and comfort care.

General visiting hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Pediatrics

  • Medical and surgical services for children from infancy through 18 years of age.
  • Provide age appropriate activities for all patients.
  • Apnea detection services in collaboration with MercyOne Home Care.
  • CPR instruction to interested parents.
  • MercyOne Pediatric Oncology Case Management - Case Management for Children with Cancer.
