Emily Penney, RN, is October’s recipient for Mercy Medical Center – North Iowa’s DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. Each month a nurse from Mercy– North Iowa is honored with The DAISY Award, which recognizes the super-human efforts nurses perform every day.
Emily is a nurse in Mercy’s Critical Care Unit. A former patient nominated her for the award:
“My mom was brought to the Emergency Department in July … Everyone whom touched her contributed to her recovery, but Emily, her nurse, went above and beyond She gave us hope but was realistic. While my mom lay in the coma state she talked to my mom about every procedure that was being done to her. She let all of us know that there were no stupid questions. As family member after family member would ask the same question, but a different times, she answered respectfully as if it was the first time being asked. She was so patient, kind, professional and personable with us. My mom has had 35 surgeries during my life so I have met a lot of nurses. She is one of the best that has ever touched our lives!”
