Charles City Welcomes Healthcare Provider Back to the Community

Joanne Robinson, ARNPMASON CITY, IA…The community of Charles City is welcoming back one of its healthcare providers, Joanne Robinson, ARNP, who is now providing care to people of all ages at Mercy Family Clinic – Charles City, 1413 South Grand Avenue.

Robinson’s three-year relationship with the residents of Charles City began when she practiced medicine with Kevin Kimm, M.D., who relocated out of the community. She then joined Mercy Clinics and began a practice with providers at Mercy Family Clinic – Rockford. Now, Robinson will be the primary care provider at Mercy Family Clinic – Charles City Monday – Friday; a physician will be joining her at the clinic one day a week.

As an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP), Robinson, is qualified to function independently and provide quality health care including physical examinations, diagnostic testing, develop and carry out treatment programs, and patient counseling. She also can prescribe medications and maintains hospital privileges at Mercy – North Iowa and at Floyd County Medical Center.

ARNPs can specialize in many areas of medicine; Robinson has passed national certification exams specializing as both an Adult Nurse Practitioner and a Family Nurse Practitioner. The Iowa Board of Nursing mandates nurse practitioners are licensed to practice in the state of Iowa.

Earning an ARNP degree and certification requires rigorous work. All candidates must graduate from a board-approved advanced practice master’s program. Robinson graduated in 1998 from Creighton University, Omaha, NE with a Master of Science degree as an Adult Primary Care Nurse Practitioner with a focus in cardiac rehabilitation and cardiology. In 2003 she completed a post-graduate certification program from the University of Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha, as a Family Nurse Practitioner.

Since graduation in 1998 she has practiced with Creighton Family Practice in Omaha, and the United States Air Force family practice clinics at Offutt AFB, Nebraska. She also taught in the undergraduate nursing program at the University of Nebraska prior to joining Dr. Kimm in May 2005. She retired from the Air Force Reserves in April of 2008 with 26 years of service at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

“I feel incredibly lucky to have the opportunity to return to medical practice in Charles City and feel even more fortunate to be associated with a Top 100 Hospital, like
Mercy – North Iowa,” Robinson said.

Mercy Family Clinic – Charles City is welcoming new patients; office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday. To schedule an appointment call 641.228.5555.
