Partners in Pink Did it Again!
Fund Raising Event Supports Breast and Cervical Cancer
MASON CITY – Partners in Pink are increasing awareness of important health topics and improving access to health care services. In 2006, a relationship developed between Mercy Women’s Services and Hy-Vee East of Mason City, Partners in Pink, was created to increase awareness about breast and cervical health and cancer risk.
Hy-Vee East has initiated several fund-raising activities to help support Mercy’s Women Services Walk/Run & Wag for the Cure, which provides support to women who cannot afford screening and other breast and cervical health care services. The most recent partnership activity was an auction of the bakery items created by top Hy-Vee decorators from the North Iowa region at the 2008 Hy-Vee Cake Designer Competition.
The auction was initiated by Steve Mercer from Hy-Vee Bakery and announced by Randy Black of Hy-Vee Floral both from the Hy-Vee East store in Mason City. Many community members supported the event through purchasing the beautiful cakes, cupcakes and cookies created from the Cake Designer Competition.
This event raised $1,302 to support underserved North Iowa women in need. It is partners like Mercy Women’s Services and Hy-Vee that can make a difference in the health of our communities.
