Mercy Air Med is North Iowa's premier helicopter medical service. The helicopter, supported by Mercy Medical Center - North Iowa, made its first flight in 1999, ushering in a new era in aeromedical care in northern Iowa and southern Minnesota. Flying with a highly skilled nurse and paramedic team, Mercy Air Med serves an area extending 130 miles from Mason City, Iowa.
The service features the latest in helicopter EMS technology including a brand new aircraft providing increased speed, Night Vision Goggles (NVG) for the entire crew and satellite communication technology.
Mercy Air Med provides medical and emergency personnel with:
- Rapid air transport to the critically ill and injured.
- Transport from accident scenes.
- Inter-facility transport for patients needing additional medical resources.
Mercy Air Med is available to any emergency medical authority, including hospital medical staff physicians and nurses, EMS ambulance and first response units, police and highway patrols, sheriff and fire departments.

Mercy Air Med, a Bell 407 helicopter, is stationed at the helipad east of the Emergency Center at Mercy Medical Center - North Iowa's East Campus.
The Mercy Air Med crew quarters is located on the East Campus near Mercy - North Iowa's Emergency Department.
