Jessica Read, R.N., was July’s recipient for Mercy Medical Center – North Iowa’s DAISY Award
for Extraordinary Nurses. Each month a nurse from Mercy– North Iowa is honored with
The DAISY Award, which recognizes the super-human efforts nurses perform every day.
Read, who began her career at Mercy – North Iowa seven years ago, is a nurse on the Cardiac Step-Down Unit, 6W. A former patient’s family member nominated her for the award.
“Jessica was compassionate and understanding during our frustrating times and patient when we asked her to explain something again. As a visitor, who spent a great deal of time on the floor, I was so flattered and put at ease with Jessica. She called me by named each time she talked with me. I would meet her in the hall and she would smile and again call me by name if only to say hi. This was an extremely comforting and simple thing she did, but it made me feel like she truly took an interest in my family member and took time to pay attention to ‘the little things.’”
