Mercy Medical Center North Iowa

January 2014 DAISY Award Recipient

Matt Stroup, RN, is January's recipient for Mercy Medical Center – North Iowa’s DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. Each month a nurse from Mercy– North Iowa is honored with The DAISY Award, which recognizes the super-human efforts nurses perform every day.

Matt is a nurse in Mercy's Cardiac Cath Lab.  A former patient nominated him for the award:

"I recently had an angiogram, and the staff was amazing from start to finish.  I was especially impressed with my nurse, Matt Stroup.  Matt came into my room, introduced himself and shook my hand and my husband's hand.  He then went through the procedure as I, the patient, would experience it from beginning to end.  He reassured me that he would be with me the entire time in the procedure room.  I was sitting in a chair, and he got down on his knee to look me in the eye while he was talking.  He then talked to my husband letting him know what to expect for the day, which as a patient made me feel reassured that my family would be taken care of as well.  My daughter, who works in the hospital, was in the room with us.  Matt still informed us of every step that was going to happen for the day, and he treated my daughter as a family member not as a co-worker.  Matt's professionalism, compassion and empathy for me and my family should be recognized.  He made me feel like I was his priority from the moment I met him until the procedure was complete.  I have been in and out of hospitals for many years, but this particular visit stands out because of Matt Stroup.  He is truly an example of excellence."
