Internal Medicine Residency

Welcome From The Residents and Faculty!

Thank you for your interest in MercyOne North Iowa’s Internal Medicine Residency program. Before exploring our website, we encourage you to review the following introductory information about our program.

  • The program began in July of 2016 as an AOA (American Osteopathic Association) accredited residency program. We received ACGME (Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education) initial accreditation in July of 2017 and continued accreditation in September 2021.
  • The residency program is based at MercyOne North Iowa located in Mason City, Iowa. MercyOne is a community-based hospital of over 200 acute beds. The hospital serves as a 14-county regional referral center with approximately 33,000 emergency room visits a year, 11,500 acute inpatient discharges per year, and 450,000 observation and outpatient visits a year.
  • We benefit from a close working relationship with the MercyOne North Iowa Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology Fellowships, and the MercyOne North Iowa Family Medicine Residency.
  • We also benefit from affiliation with Trinity Health and the Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine.
  • Our residents have close working relationships with our Internal Medicine hospitalists and subspecialty staff, with the ability to perform multiple procedures early in their residency training.
  • Mason City, Iowa, offers the advantages of living in a small city, including a safe and economical environment in which to work, live, and play.

We are proud of the training our program provides to our residents. We are also very proud of our residents and the care they provide to patients in Northern Iowa. We hope that you will consider applying to our Internal Medicine Residency Program.

Sincerely,
Matthew Hardee, DO
Internal Medicine Residency Program Director
