Four Mercy - North Iowa nurses – Patty Auringer, R.N., C.H.P.N.; Donita Balek, R.N.; Patti Peterson, R.N., B.S.N., C.E.N.; and Judy Ratzlaff, R.N. – are among those recognized as 100 Great Iowa Nurses for 2014. The award honors nurses who have made a meaningful and lasting contribution to humanity and their profession and who act as mentors to others.
Patty Auringer is a nurse with Hospice of North Iowa; Donita Balek is a nurse with Mercy Home Care; Patti Peterson is the Director of Mercy – North Iowa's Emergency Services, Mercy Family Health Line, Inpatient Behavioral Services, and Infusion/PICC team; and Judy Ratzlaff is a nurse with Mercy Home Care. They were recognized at the annual 100 Great Iowa Nurses Celebration held on May 4 in Des Moines.
"I am very proud of them and their accomplishments. They truly exemplify all of the principles on which the 100 Great Iowa Nurses celebration was founded," said Kim Chamberlin, Vice President, Patient Services/CNO.
The Iowa Nurses Association, Iowa Nurses Foundation and College of Nursing partner each year to create the list, which celebrates nursing by honoring 100 nurses from around the state. Colleagues, patients, doctors, friends and family members submit nominations. The nurses selected for this honor represent many sectors of healthcare including hospitals, long-term care facilities, schools and office nurses. There were over 500 nurses nominated this year, and we are honored to have 4 of the 100 nurses that were selected.
Whether they are working in clinics, at the bedside, teaching students or serving the community, Mercy nurses make a tremendous difference in our communities. We are grateful for all of our nurses and excited to celebrate the accomplishments of our 4 nurses who were selected for the 100 Great Iowa Nurses for 2014.
