Benefits

Mason City is a comfortable place to live. While housing is not guaranteed, hospital-owned and privately-owned homes are available to residents. These are located within five minutes or less walking distance of both the Family Medicine Center and the hospital.

Salary
R1 - $46,500
R2 - $47,500
R3 - $49,500
Vacation
Residents receive 16 days of vacation annually.
Sick Leave
Residents receive five days of sick leave annually.
Education Leave
Second and third year residents receive education funds which may be used to
purchase educational materials or attend an educational conference. Second
year residents receive $600 and three days leave, if they attend a conference.
Third years residents receive $900 and five days leave, if they attend a
conference.
In addition, the program pays for residents to attend ACLS, BCLS, PALS, Newborn Resuscitation, ALSO, and ATLS.
Insurance
Residents are provided malpractice insurance covering all resident rotations.
Pre-tax deductions are required for medical and dental coverage. Disability
and basic life insurance are provided without cost.
Meals
While performing resident duties at the hospital or clinic, all meals from
the cafeteria are provided at no cost to the resident.
Housing
Residents are given priority for hospital-owned housing.
Licensure
Iowa Medical license, DEA, and State Pharmacy fees are provided by the residency
program for all resident years.
Professional Memberships
Annual dues paid for American Academy of Family Physicians,
Iowa Academy of Family Physicians, American Medical Association, Iowa
Medical Society and Cerro Gordo County Medical Society.
Health Club Membership
Local health club membership is provided for the resident and family.
Moonlighting
Moonlighting is available at the second and third year levels with the consent
of the Residency Program Director.
Interview Expense
Applicants are provided with one night's lodging. Mercy Family Medicine Residency
participates in Just the
Ticket, a travel grant program for medical students interviewing
with University of Iowa-affiliated Family Medicine residencies.
Moving Expense
A one-time relocation allowance of $1,000 is provided.
