Family Medicine Residency
Benson Hargens, MD
Benson was raised in Hudson, Iowa and graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in Biology and a minor in Geriatrics. Following graduation from Iowa State he earned his Master of Public Health with a focus on Rural Agricultural Safety and Health from the University of Iowa College of Public Health and his MD from the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine in 2015.
Benson is extremely passionate about rural healthcare and chose Mercy Family Medicine Residency North Iowa because it offered a unique opportunity to train in town of less than 30,000 people with a large hospital that provides medical care for over 200,000 people in North Iowa. He felt this training setting would best prepare him to practice full-spectrum Family Medicine in a town of less than 10,000 people following residency.
Outside of medicine Benson enjoys spending time with his wife Lora and both of their extended families, church, running, investing, cars, and avidly supporting Iowa State University.
