Two Mason City physicians have received three-year appointments as cancer liaison physicians from Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa to the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer, the CoC announced.
Dr. Angela Konrad and Dr. Steven Goetz will represent the Mercy cancer program, serving as part of a national network of more than 1,500 volunteer physicians.
As cancer liaison physicians, they are responsible for evaluating, interpreting and reporting the Mercy cancer program’s performance data and facilitating quality improvement initiatives based on the data.
They are also responsible for spearheading CoC initiatives within Mercy’s cancer program and collaborating with agencies such as the American Cancer Society.
As cancer liaison physicians, they will also work with Mercy’s cancer program staff to facilitate the submission, presentation, use and interpretation of information from the National Cancer Center Data Base.
Analyzing and sharing this data with the cancer committee can have a positive impact on cancer patient care at the local level.
The Commission on Cancer is a consortium of 49 professional organizations dedicated to improving the survival and quality of life for cancer patients.
