Kyle Ver Steeg, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Bariatric Surgeon
Dr. Kyle Ver Steeg is certified by the American Board of Surgeons and is a member of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons. He has several years experience performing gastric bypass surgery and has accomplished more than 600 successful bariatric procedures.
Dr. Ver Steeg grew up in Humboldt, Iowa and graduated from Humboldt High School. He obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy from the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy. He earned his Medical degree from Northwestern University Medical School, located in Chicago.
Hussien Mohamed, M.D., FACS., PhD,
General and Bariatric surgeon
Dr. Hussein Mohamed, an Egyptian native, is an American Board certified physician. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons as well as a Member of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons and the American Society of Transplantation.
He graduated with honors from Ain-Shams Medical School in Cairo, Egypt in 1986. He completed an internship and surgical residency training at Ain-Shams University Hospitals. During that period of training he earned a Master degree in Management of Colorectal Cancer.
In early 1991, Dr. Mohamed began work on his Ph.D. in the field of Liver Transplantation and Hepatitis C Infection as a joint-project between Ain-Shams University and Pittsburgh University, located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He completed his education in 1995.
From 2000-2004, Dr. Mohamed furthered his medical training and attended Medical University of South Carolina. It was there that he became interested in laparoscopic surgery, in particular the laparoscopic donor nephrectomy and bariatric surgery. The Bariatric Surgery Center at MUSC, is a Center of Excellence, performing about 200 surgeries per year.
Both physicians are certified by the American Board of Surgeons and are members of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.
