Physical Therapy Care for Bariatric Surgery
Initial assessment for admission to Mercy bariatric program includes a physical therapy screening. If a patient meets criteria for assessment, it may be paid for by insurance with a doctor’s prescription.
An initial screening tool and assessment will be performed at a pre-op class by the Mercy bariatric coordinator. Patients will be referred to the physical therapist before surgery as needed; individual therapy/counseling as needed; and will monitor their activity during workout.
Patients will need to meet with an exercise trainer three months after surgery. Sessions with the exercise trainer will be held at Mercy Bariatric Center, 621 S Illinois, Mason City.
Sessions with the physical therapist will be held at Mercy - Cheslea Creek Rehabilitation Center, 1501 Fourth Street SW, Mason City.
We will expect a willingness to overcome physical barriers to exercise and keep moving.
