General Information

Radiologic Technology is the art and science of the administration of diagnostic and therapeutic radiological modalities under the direction of a physician in the detection and treatment of diseases, evaluation of broken bones and detection of other physiologic conditions. Ionizing radiation and other forms of imaging are used in research, industry and other areas of medicine.

The revolution in technology and complexity of the equipment, plus the demand for properly educated personnel have contributed to the rapid growth in the profession.

Since 1947, Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa has offered instructional and clinical training program to those who wish to become registered as radiologic technologists.

Mercy Medical Center North Iowa ---- School of Radiologic Technology

Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa School of Radiologic Technology is committed to a curriculum that provides students with the knowledge, performance skills and professional behaviors to enable them to perform the major tasks typically required of an entry level radiographer. This is a 4 term, 2 summer session program beginning the third week of August each year. Students may spend up to 40 hours per week in the program, which includes both clinical and academic time.

During the program, the student will attend clinical practice no more than four weekends and no more than eight weeks of evening hours. Mercy Medical Center - North Iowa is a Level II trauma hospital. We therefore feel that the student can learn much by attending clinical practice during these special hours.

Students who are already enrolled or accepted in the pre-radiology program at North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) are NOT automatically enrolled in our program at Mercy. If you are interested in our program, you must apply and interview for consideration to be accepted. Enrollment in NIACC's pre-radiology program does not guarantee placement in our program.

If you would like an application packet, please contact us and we would be happy to send one to you or you may print off application and 2 reference forms from this website.  We hold several information sessions about the profession and our school several times throughout the year at the hospital. Please check the information session page for dates and times. All applicants must attend one information session before turning in their application packet.
